EA Arena

Last Sunday, Datablitz and Cyberzone recently held EA Arena, a gaming event at SM Annex, SM North. EA Arena offered freeplay of some of Electronic Arts' (EA) best selling games for different consoles (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC) which includes NBA Jam and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, they also held the game launch of Dead Space 2, the sequel to the top rated Sci-Fi Horror game. There were booths from Razer, Cooling Master, Asus and Lenovo that showcased some of their latest products for gaming.

It's the first time I played the Dead Space game, and it was great, the suspense of the dark, creepy environment really intensified the gameplay experience, as well as having powerful weaponries. I'd probably buy a copy of Dead Space 2 and also the first Dead Space game this February.

You can check out the trailer to get the idea on how scary Dead Space 2 is:

X-Men First Class

I know a lot of you were disappointed with the 2009 movie X-Men Origins, but another X-Men is scheduled to be shown this year entitled X-Men: First Class which focus more on the origin of the mutant team.

X-Men: First Class is set during the 1960's where it will also focus on the relationship between Charles Xavier and Magneto along with the origin of their groups: the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants.

There is still no trailers being released for the movie as of this moment, but there was an official image of the team's costume which resembles the original 1960's costume.

And here are the characters, from left to right:
  • Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto (Michael Fassbender)
  • Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne)
  • Emma Frost (January Jones)
  • Azazel (Jason Flemyng)
  • Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult)
  • Alex Summers/Havok (Lucas Till)
  • Angel Salvadore (Zoe Kravitz)
  • Raven Darkholme/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence)
  • Charles Xavier/Professor X (James McAvoy)

You would notice that only Beast is the only member in the movie that was the original member in the very first X-Men team (the 1960's comics if you were actually reading the X-Men comics).
I still have a mixed reaction for this movie, but let's hope that this would be better than the last movie X-Men movies.

X-Men: First Class will be directed by Matthew Vaughn and produced by Bryan Singer, the movie will be in theaters June 3, 2011

*note: These were taken from the Official PlayStation Blog

You can check the videos for the demo of some games as well as some footage from the press conference (videos from Game On and Gamespot):

From the looks of it, Sony has ditched the 3D feature that Nintendo was going to offer with their 3DS, although Sony was hailed as the "Champion of 3D" for the 3D features in their home theater products, so it's surprising that they never added this feature. And with the lack of a UMD drive, the NGP is going all out for digital downloads and also promises backward compatibility, where you can play PSP, PSN, PS2 and PS1 games. Another absent from the press con was the PSP Phone, there were leaked images and videos of the said device but Sony is still mum about it.

And finally the pricing, there are still no announcement on the final pricing of the NGP, some speculate that it will be priced at around $300-350, but there's a chance that they will adjust the price to compete with the Nintendo 3DS $250 price tag.

Hopefully more questions can be answered in the following weeks and probably on E3 this coming June. So let's wait and see.

All New Thundercats

I just found this link from Facebook and it shows the very first image of the upcoming Thundercats cartoons, this was taken from a London Toy Fair.

From the looks of it, the new series is now very anime-inspired, a big change from the classic version. There was also a Trailer in the said convention that shows the promotional ad along with interviews from the cast, it also showed the character designs of the Kittens, Snarf and Mumm-Ra, which was said were almost identical to original design.

There were no announcements of a scheduled release for the cartoons as well as a toyline release.

For comparison, here's an image of the Thundercats from the Wildstorm comic version:

Bringing Games to The Real World

Playing video games can sometimes makes you wonder, can some of these really be possible in the real world? Well one show tried to find out if some of the concepts in the video game world can be applied to the real world.

Roosterteeth, the team behind some of the popular machinimas like Red Vs. Blue unveils a new series called Immersion, which is like the Myth Busters, but for video games.

Immersion covers the what ifs in gaming to the real world such as driving a car in a third person view, making headshots against a horde of zombies, online game trash talk distractions, side scrolling in real life, bringing a ton of weapons in a single run and even how can cosplay girls fight in a battle.

All of those questions will be answered by watching their series, the show is really hilarious especially if you are a true gamer. The show just ended their first season and has already attained millions of view on Youtube. You can watch the first two episodes of Immersion below and the complete first season here.

Cladun: This Is An RPG Game Review

Nippon Ichi Software or NIS, the creators of Disgaea and Phantom Brave, released a retro-style RPG for the PlayStation Portable entitled Cladun: This Is An RPG!, will this game be a hit despite having retro-style graphics?

The storyline was pretty simple, two adventurers fell into the world of Arcanus Cella, a not-your-average magical world, where they meet different people in that world and started their own adventure in Arcanus Cella. A fun part here is that you watch the end by leaving the world through a cave, even at a start of the game, but of course the ending varies as you progress into the game. The script in the game is pretty hilarious, with different punchlines and references from popular pop cultures.

Cladun, which stands for Classic Dungeon is a dungeon crawling RPG that pretty reminds you of 2D Zelda games. But that doesn't mean that Cladun is just a copycat game, the game features a random generated dungeon that reaches up to the 99th level (but of course that part is just optional) and also a deep character development system called the Magic Circle, where you place your sub characters in a slot along with some stats boosting items to attach, there are also different sets of magic circles to suit your character class, and you can experiment with the system to create your ultimate character, but do take note that the other characters that you added in the Magic Circle will gain experience at any battle as well sharing a single HP with your main character, and if any of the character dies in battle, you will a portion of the stats that were allocated from that particular character. Your sub characters will gain stats when they level up but your main will only gain HP bonuses when it levels up, so you have to switch your main to a sub character in order for it to gain bonus stats.

Another cool feature is that you can design your own character, from pixel to pixel, if you are the creative type, you can generate your favorite characters from other games in classic 8-bit design, and another cool part, you can get to choose which final boss you will going to face in your final showdown.

The graphics are all in classic 8-bit style design. this will definitely give the old-school gamers a nostalgic feel on Cladun, but players who are in the 3D-era might be a bit turned off when they see the retro-style graphics.

The music in Cladun was also good, aside from that you can choose from the original version or the classic 8-bit tune version which will complete your classic gaming experience.

There is also a multiplayer function which includes a co-op mode and a deathmatch mode that will give more ample time to enjoy Cladun with your friends.

Cladun is one great RPG that'll give 20+ hours of game time and it doesn't even include the optional dungeons, add taht up and that'll will double your game time. This is definite must-have for classic gaming lovers but some RPG fans might get mixed reactions because of the complexity of the Magic Circle system and with the 8-bit graphics, but overall Cladun is still one decent RPG.

Game Rating: 8 out of 10

Cladun: This Is An RPG! was developed and published by NIS
