Today I'll be introducing a new feature to the blog, and it's called Faces.
It's all about the different versions or faces of a certain character from a video game, anime, comics or even from movies. Detailing of the different versions from it's backstories, abilities and personalities.
And first to be introduced to our new feature will be the famous blue bomber: Mega Man
Mega Man, also known as Rock Man in Japan, was created by Keiji Inafune at Capcom in 1987.
The story began as Rock is a robot created as a lab assistant by the scientist Dr. Thomas Light; following treachery by Dr. Wily, Rock was converted into a fighting robot to defend the world from Wily's violent robotic threats. Thus he becomes Mega Man.
All the Mega Man series have different stories, settings and characters, so let's take down some of the popular series.
The very first series of the famous Mega Man franchise, debuted on December 17, 1987 in Japan.
The basic story of the game revolves around the robot engineer Dr. Thomas Light, his robotic "children," Rock (a lab-assistant) and Roll (a housekeeper), and their struggle against Dr. Albert W. Wily.
The story revolves around Mega Man X, the final creation of Dr. Thomas Light, who is discovered by world-renowned archaeologist Dr. Cain and used to create an advanced race of robots known as "Reploids" (called so because they are literally reproductions based on the design of X). However, not long after their creation, some of the Reploids begin to go "maverick" and attack humans. Because of this, Dr. Cain is asked by the council to put a stop to this, and as such, forms a special unit to stop these "Mavericks" known as the "Maverick Hunters." However, the leader of the Hunters and Dr. Cain's initial creation, Sigma, goes maverick himself, taking many of the Hunters with him. Thus, the beginning of the First Maverick War begins to take shape.
Mega Man Legends,(Rockman DASH series, Rokkuman DASH shiriizu), is the third series in the Mega Man franchise. DASH is an acronym for "Digouter's Adventure Story in Halcyon Days". The series features 3D platforming gameplay.
The Legends series takes place thousands of years after the ZX series. By this time, the world is mostly ocean, leaving some islands left for civilization to prosper on. Based on in-game dialogue, the series takes place at least in the year 70XX, if not later.
The player controls MegaMan Volnutt, a teenage digger and archaeologist of sorts who searches underground ruins mainly for Quantum Refractors, which are the civilization's primary source of energy. He was found as a baby on Nino Island at the bottom of the closed-off Nino Ruins and was raised by Professor Barrel Caskett along with his granddaughter Roll Caskett.
Mega Man Battle Network is a spin-off series based on the original Mega Man. This spin-off combines elements of the classic Mega Man stories with the high-tech world of computers.
In a parallel universe from the Mega Man classic series in the year 200X, the internet has become integrated with every piece of electronic equipment in existence (from TVs to ovens), and people carry around hand-held devices known as a Personal Exploration Terminal (PET). These devices act as phones, pagers, instant messengers, news beams, and hacking devices all rolled into one. Additionally they are able to be customized with a “NetNavi” or a human-like personality that can be anything the owner desires.
A fifth-grader named Lan Hikari(Netto Hikari in Japan) has a NetNavi named MegaMan.EXE (Rockman.EXE), a virus-fighting blue-suited cyber personality who is also Lan’s best friend. Although MegaMan.EXE has no body (unless the PET device itself counts), he can wander around in Cyberspace and explore computer systems as if they were alternate worlds. Together Lan and MegaMan.EXE (also known as just MegaMan) cooperate to fight off hackers and viruses.
The Mega Man Zero, known as Rockman Zero is the third series in the main Mega Man story-line, and the fifth series in Capcom's Mega Man video game franchise.
The story takes place one-hundred years after Zero had sealed himself after the Elf Wars. In this time-period, both the "Maverick Wars" and "Elf Wars" have ended, but a new threat has arisen and threatens to destroy both human and Reploid kind. A young scientist named Ciel, leader of a "Resistance", is searching for the legendary Reploid Zero to help in the fight against the oppressive forces of Neo Arcadia. She comes across the ruins of the lab in which Zero was sealed and awakens him. Thus, Zero becomes a member of the Resistance and takes up his sword once again to fight against evil.
Mega Man ZX is the first installment in the Mega Man ZX series.
In the 26th century, about 200 years after the Mega Man Zero series, the difference between humans and Reploids has become nonexistent, and a new combination of "man and machine," called "humanoids" has emerged. Although the series of events known as the "Second Maverick Wars" has long since ended, a new series of "maverick" uprisings begins to occur, which proves to be a dangerous threat since all beings on earth are now part machine in nature and thus susceptible to the outbreak. Vent and Aile, orphans from a maverick outbreak that occurred ten years ago, get drawn into the new conflict, along with Giro, the head of their delivery team.
MegaMan Star Force, known as Shooting Star Rockman is a series takes place 200 years after the MegaMan Battle Network series.
Geo Stelar's father disappeared in space, and a friend of his father, Aaron Boreal, gave him a Visualizer that belonged to his father, a device that allows see electro-magnetic waves. With this, Geo was able to see Omega-Xis, a EM alien that escaped from Planet FM with the Andromeda Key. As Omega-Xis is weak on Earth, he needs to EM Wave Change with a human to use his full strength, and he says that if Geo helps him, he will help find his father. They fuse into MegaMan, allowing Geo to enter in the "Wave World".
So there you have it, tune in in the future for more on Faces: guide to the different versions of your favorite gaming, anime and movie characters.
